Resume versus Eulogy Virtues

You are in the midst of building your "resume"--meaning that you are acquiring good grades for your records, aiming to win awards, degrees and anything that can make you look good, get you into a good college, and earn a good job.  Much of your life will be dedicated to this.  But what will your long-term impact be?  I'm showing you this video to press into your thinking--the idea that "eulogy virtues" are what will impact this world greater than your resume virtues.  In fact, it already does now. Carry that idea into high school and your future.

• Fight your weaknesses, but first you must know them and acknowledge them.

AFTER THE VIDEO journal questions:

4.  What do you want as your eulogy, or legacy virtues?  How do you want to be remembered?  How will you aim to deserve that?  Start with your smaller environment (that's often harder).

5.  FIGHT YOUR WEAKNESSES.  While it's easy to notice the flaws in others, it's harder to notice them in ourselves.  It's even harder to change it!
Think about a time you just blurted out something that was offensive to someone else.  Why do you think you did that?  (I know you can think of something!)  

 If you can understand your own mistakes, you are less likely to make them again.  But, if you apologize and formally acknowledge it, you have an even greater chance of NOT repeating it.

6. Choose two topics from below, or create new ones, and explains WHY you think people behave the way they do.

Why do Collegiate kids criticize others' clothes or shoes?  Why do middle school girls form cliques and make others feel left out? Why do students lie to get out of trouble?  Why do people gossip (students AND adults!)?  Why do people label and call names?  There are many other behaviors that students AND adults do that we know are wrong, but we keep doing them!
