Journal on "Invictus" 9/18

Before watching the  next segment of "Invictus", answer these questions:

1.  Is there anything you do to motivate yourself?  For example, before a game, do you listen to music? Do you have a favorite song or quote that helps you keep your focus or picks you up? If you get down, do you talk to someone in particular, who encourages you?

What are some of the words that you hear--from music, or others--that inspire you?

2.  Nelson Mandela had a vision for his country, that not even those closest to him shared.  He faced criticism from those closest to him.  Yet, he persisted in that dream. Notice that it was not to make himself great.  It was to restore his country.
Do you have a "vision" for something other than yourself?  For example, do you have a dream to help your family be their best? To help your team be their best (not just to make you look great)? For peace on earth? If you do not have a vision outside yourself, try to come up with one.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After answering those two questions, save your journal. The next few questions will be answered after watching the next segment of "Invictus".

As you watch "Invictus", how does Francois answer this question:  What is your philosophy on Leadership?  How do you inspire your team to do their best?

Nelson Mandela replies, "How do you get them to be better than they think they can be?  How do we inspire ourselves to greatness when nothing less will do?  How do we inspire everyone else around us?    What does Nelson Mandela suggest can work?

How did he find inspiration while imprisoned on Robbin Island, "that helped him to stand when all he wanted to do is sit down..."
