Gossip

"We love being gossiped to because it makes us feel trusted and important. We love knowing more about other people. We want to be in the loop. We want to know what everyone is saying about so-and-so.

But here’s the thing we need to realize: Whenever someone is talking to you about others, they’re actually saying something about you.

What they’re saying about you, by gossiping to you, is that you’re the type of person who would appreciate some yummy gossip. They are telling you that they believe you have an appetite for slander. While whispering to you about others privately, they’re actually declaring loudly and clearly that you, like them, are a gossip and a slanderer."

-Julian Freeman

Look up the words "gossip" and "slander".  What is the difference?

Comment on these questions:  What is hard about NOT getting involved in gossip?  What is a good way to avoid gossip, or to end gossip?

  1. This is true because a lot of people like to gossip and know more like another people. What is HARD about getting gossip if you really don't know them as well and you don't feel included..

  3. I think its hard because you may not like the person you talk about. But I think it's your responsibility to be friends with the right kind of people so you are less likely to be involved in gossip.

  4. A good way you can end gossip is to bring the subject up to the person it is about and to let that person state what they think or what they know is true.

  5. Gossip is regular talk, Slander is talk that can damage other peoples reputation. It is true, but when not involved in gossip, it ruins a social life you have, or could have without Slander.

  6. it is not that hard to stay away from gossip because all you have to do is stay away from the person that is spreding the gossip. To end gossip is an imposible thing because someone is still going to be the trouble maker.

  7. Yes, it's absolutely true, but, I don't find it hard to avoid gossip because the people I hang out with don't really gossip.

  10. what is hard about not getting involved with gossip is because it happens so much without people realizing it. A good way to end gossip is to say to the person that its not cool and to stop even though that person might start gossip on you its the right thing to help out another person even if they won't know what happened.

  11. It is hard NOT getting involved because everyone does it. They might not do it on purpose, but everyone gossips. It is really hard to avoid gossips, but its not impossible. Instead of wasting your time and talking about people, talk about events or stuff that is more important.

  13. Gossip - Possibly true but maybe not true, it can harmful.
Slander- Something harmful that is false.
I think it is hard not to get involved gossip because it can sometimes be interesting to listen to what is going. A good way to avoid gossip would be to change the subject when somebody does gossip and to not spread it yourself.

  14. You always want to know something you dont. Its obviously not the best idea to get involved, but if you try to stop the rumor then you're the bigger person. A good way to not get into gossip is to just avoid the people that start or get into it. A good way to end gossip is when someone tells you just dont tell anymore people just end it with you, and when someone asks you about it just deny it and say it is just a rumor. Also if they have to know actually go and ask the person or thing that its about.

  15. It is hard to not get involved in gossip because that is what everyone else is doing. It is hard to not get involved in a conversation if you are around the people who are talking about gossip. A way to stop talking about gossip is when anyone else is trying to say gossip to you, you just tell them you don't want to talk about that and you can say that you don't feel comfortable gossiping.
