You have two tasks you need to complete. Please post your answers in two paragraphs:
Paragraph one - I will give you a value. Give me the definition of that value. Then, tell me where you see that value in Mulan. Tell me why this value is important in life. Now, tell me what the opposite of this value is and if you see that anywhere in Mulan.
Paragraph two - Tell me whether you felt Mulan or Up is a better movie for teaching values. Support your answer with at least three reasons.
Don't forget to SIGN ALL THE NAMES of the people in your group. Also, while you are posting, you might look back at the last entry to see if either of the winning quotes are the quote you submitted. If so, claim it on the blog.
After this is complete, I will review your group's answers on Up and Mulan. There will be one winning group.
Integrity is to live by your morales and your ethics. In the movie Mulan we saw integrity in the many parts, one of which is when she took the place of her father without him knowing she was taking his place. Also in the part where Mulan went to go warn Shang the captain, and the rest of the army that the Huns were alive. She did this after they kicked her off of the army because she was a girl, they also threatened to kill her because of the law. The opposite of integrity was when Shang still let her get kicked out of the army even though she was a hero, and saved his life. Integrity is important to life because you need to stay true to who you are and "no matter how hard the wind blows the mountain will never bow down."
ReplyDeleteWe think Mulan is a better movie for teaching values because it shows integrity where Mulan takes the place of her father in the army, love where Mulan went to warn the rest of the army about the Huns, courage where she makes the plan to take down the Huns toward the end of the movie.

Respect is, esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. When Shang, Mulan's captain was about to kill her because they found out she was a girl. Shang respected her enough not to kill her. Oposite of respect is disrespect, you see this in the movie Mulan because the whole Chinese society makes Men more important than Women!
ReplyDeleteMulan because 1)All the value's that Muchue shows to be able to help and defy all the family ancesters 2)Courage to join the army evan though she is a Women and she can be killed for that! 3)Mulan's family desplays lots of love toward each other!
Our value is intergity. Intergrity means completness. Intergrity is when you take all the values you believe in and live by them. We saw integrity in Mulan many times. The first was when Mulan left her home in her father's armor to go to the army. Doing this saved her father's life and showed her great charactor. In this scene she showed courage, and love. Being a girl in China she was believed not able to be nothing. This showed that she was not afraid to stray from the crowd and not just accept what she was given. The opposite of intregity is direspect and dishonesty. We saw disrespect in the movie when she tried to stop her father from going to the army.
ReplyDeleteWe believe Up is the better movie to show about values becuase there are so many more in the movie than in Mulan. Mulan has a harder storyline to find different values in because it keeps repeating the same ones over and over again.

Our value is compassion. The definition of compassion is having deep sympathy for someone or something. A place that we found it in Mulan is when she risked her life to save her father and also to save shang when he was buried under the snow. If you don't have compassion no one will ever be your real friend. The opposite of compassion hatred, and they showed that when they found out mulan was a girl and they just left her in the middle of the mountain. We think that mulan is a better movie for values because it teaches you more values then up, it is more real than up because this could have actually happened. Lastly, it is better than up because the family demonstrates loyalty througout the whole entire movie.

Respect- honor or esteem
ReplyDeleteHow it shows in the movie-China Bowing, Father with sword
How its important in life- people won't respect you if you don't respect them, and people won't listen to you.
The opposite is Disrespect - not caring about others.
Mulan shows values better than UP because it has more than one value and the entire story was practically about Honor and Respect.
There was comic relief but not to much to make it a comedy.
Mulan isn't afraid to die and respected her father so much she left her home to take his place in war.

ReplyDeleteCourage- quality of being brave.
ReplyDeleteAN exampe of courage in Mulan was when Mulan ran up the mountain and she sticks the rocket-cannon infront of Shan Yu. An example of not being couragous is when the emeperor's attendent hides behind Shang from Shan Yu's army. We think UP is a better movie for teaching values than Mulan because it is a more loving and compassionate movie. There is no violence in the movie UP, and UP teaches more values than Mulan does.

ReplyDeleteCourage- the ability to do things that one might fear...
Mulan's examples of courage- going into the army for her father knowing she might dishonor her family, went back to help fight Shan Yu, not quitting, not showing her identity(not letting the men get to her when they were incredibly rude), battling Shan Yu, retrieving the arrow, saving Shang and taking the risk with the avalanch that no body thought of but her.
Opposite= cowardly, some of the men when battling shan yu
Grizzly challenge= we experienced how hard it was to be couragous, but we can't even imagine how hard it would have been in her situation. She had no "harness" for extra support. We know we wouldn't fall because we had a harness, Mulan, however, didn't have reassurance to tell her she would be okay... PS: we loved the movie... great choice!
